Question Squeaking belt 97 Expl XLT 5.0

Whenever I drive through deep puddles, the belt squeaks and the battery light comes on. It is difficult to steer as well. Do I just need to replace the belt, or is it going to be more to it?

Re: Squeaking belt 97 Expl XLT 5.0

I would start with the belt ans look at the belt tensioner. If the tensioner has a lot of resistance to it, it is probably OK.

Hello!!!!!!!!!

It doesnt mater what you do , If you drive through water deep enough to reach the fan belt it is going to slip, and slipping will cause your alternator to quit working and power steering as well, ANY belt driven function will be compromised. Try spraying a water hose onto your fan belt sitting on dry flat land with the engine running, while your doing so have someone watch your gauges, there is no fix for this problem.
