What to do, what to do

Motor mounts are toast on block. Little bit of metal chipped off middle one so bolt doesnt thread in and stay, 2 others still have bolts busted off in them. Jeep dealership can't/won't work on it. I told them about tig welding a bolt head on, but they went with the easy way out, cant EZ BOLT OUT it cuz we drilled into threads abit on one of them. I guess they wanted the littlest work with a largest payout, they quoted me 2 hours work $250 on straight time. What a scam, $125/hr I dont think so, going rate is $85 tops. I will take it to a fabrication shop and see what they say.

If this welding trick dont work on the bolts themselves what are the other options I can do? Can I place a custom mount on the 2 other threaded holes I see on the block itself. Since you cant weld on a cast alum block like this engine.

Give me some ideas here, I feel dissappointed.

Anyway have a good day

Re: What to do, what to do

Thinking out loud here, I got some ideas. Power Steering pump has some mounting holes I can slip some custom fabrication motor mount sheet metal metal in there. Use some thick metal, with longer PS bolts. Also I could use the bolt holes where engine meet trans. Oil pan where it mounts to block. Another place is valve cover (not really that strong) but also cylinder head (much much much more work).

However I did see the receieving end of bolts on block just above original place of mounts. I dont believe however stock mount bolts fit, but it was threaded.

People design and build custom suspensions all the time, I dont think this is rocket science. Yet I am worried as hell. I am worried that there might be a crack in the block off that one middle bolt. Is there a way to check if there is one? Ulta-voilet rays or xray or something, I dont want to pull the whole engine out just to check. But I might have to in the end.

Call/find a MACHINE SHOP tell them your dilema and see if they'll help you out.

$125/hr is crazy, labor rates here are $40/hr.

You may need to pull the engine, it'll be MUCH EASIER.

Good luck, slacker

Re: What to do, what to do

Motor mounts are all fixed, so I am happy. They had to Heli-Coil all 3 on drivers side on engine. $330 Cdn later and I am cruising. Time to clean it all up.

A 1995 model exactly the same as mine went at the Auction for $7,000. Altho it was way cleaner, better paint, wheels etc. I will start on cleaning the entire heep inside and out.

I need some new seats, I heard that mustang seats are a close bolt in.
