Automotive Repair Books

I have a 02 Crew Cab 4X4 with 80K miles on it. Due to budget constraints I try to make all the repairs I can myself but my automotive knowledge is limited. In a previous post I wrote, some of you gave advice to have me chaeck the O2 sensor. Well I dont know even were to look for it. So I was wondering if anybody knew if there was a repair manual out there for a 02 4.3 4X4 . I have looked for Chilton manuals but I cant find one for a 02. Will another year work? I absolutley refuse to let another mechanic work on my car.

Re: Automotive Repair Books

Just get the newest book that you can, and there won't be too much difference.
Try reading it first though the haynes might be easier for you to understand than Chilton.

About your oxy sensor.
There are 2 or more all located in your exhaust system.
Look for a little sensor in the exhaust with some wires going to it. They are easy to find
Here's some bad news though. They are often basicly rust welded on to the point that they require an oxy acetlene torch to heat the metal right around there to remove.
Try to remove them first, but don't be suprised if they don't come out and you have to take them to a shop to change.
A plumbers propane torch won't get hot enough, and unless you have worked with an oxy acetlene torch you'll probably burn through the exhaust. That is saying that you can even borrow or rent one.

Re: Automotive Repair Books

Chilton's or Haynes are everywhere.

They don't have year specific, they cover year ranges.

Re: Re: Automotive Repair Books

Got the Oxygen Sensors out last night. Was not that bad. Now How do I tell if they are functioning properly. I am handy with a volt meter. The computer did not show a service lite so I dont think I could get any warning codes. If I keep this up I might actually know what I am talking about. Amazing what you can learn on this forum. I will never again be screwed over by a dealership.
So back to the question how do I tell if the oxygen sensor is working poorly? Thanks in advance for your advice.

You have to connect the truck to a scanner so they can monitor the sensors.
