1999 Explorer grinding brakes

My explorer has recently started grinding on the driver's front side when I brake. I checked the brake pads and rotors and they seem to be in good condition. The grinding is very bad it almost feels like the brakes are going to give out at any time.
Does anyone know what this could be?

Check the caliper bolts with a wrench/socket and make sure they are tight. Jack the front end up and spin the front wheel and check your wheel bearing for looseness/ roughness.

Also examine the inner and outer pad thickness. If your caliper is not sliding freely on the slider bolts, it can cause uneven pad wear

If all looks and feels ok mechanically, then:

If you have the cheapo pads that turn your front wheels black with brake dust, go get a decent set of pads and replace them. Cheap pads can have hard spots that grind. I have had that experience with autozone pads - put ceramics in and voila no grinding.

Get your rotors turned or replace them if you do the pads
