Unhappy Sometimes you win, and sometimes you go to the slammer.

Thankfully it wasnt me.

The car scene is pretty good here in Fort Wayne, IN and so are the surplus of police unfortunately. Everyone decided to be a little different last night and hang up at the local NAPA instead of Hall's Diner which is our typical hang out spot. Anyways, we rounded up a group of about 10 cars, LS1 and LT1's mainly and decided to go for a cruise around town. Im riding in my friend Mark's SVT Contour and were in the back of the pack. Up leading the cruise is supercharged C5 vette in one lane and in the other is a yellow C5 Z06. Were driving down probably one of the busiest and most patroled streets in Fort Wayne, when Mark and I see a newer Impala headlights come flying up fast on our tail. Definetely a cop. Right about this time, the two Corvettes up front do a 2nd WOT pull. That lasts about two seconds. The cop blazes past us, throws on the lights, and pulls the two guys over. A couple of people keep driving while the rest of us pull into a parking lot.

Bottom line is the cop handcuffed both guys, brought out the flatbed, trailered both of their cars away, and took them to jail. Both guys were in their 30s-40s, so I figured the cop may have gone easy on the guys since they werent some younger teenager. Sucks to be them and makes me think twice about racing.

That's police discretion for ya. I mean, were they breaking the speed limit by that much after 2 seconds in 2nd gear to warrant some jail time?

That sucks balls. But it is the risk you take everytime you decide to street race.

Im sure they were over the speed limit, but not by much. Im sure the main thing was for drag racing and wreckless driving.

Yes, that was my point, drag racing and wreckless driving are all matters of police discretion: they can either give you a warning or take you to jail.

Finally.... I'm so tired of hearing people saying "oh, its 20 over and you go to jail," Or "If you do a burnout, you go to jail," and all this random shit. Thank you for knowing what you are talking about.

Hey, this is all law school is useful for. Other than that it just bores the shit out of you and gives you a stuck up snobby image.

Re: Sometimes you win, and sometimes you go to the slammer.

I would never view it that way. But thats me. I would view it as being an intellegent person who obviously doens't feel like making minimum wage for eternity. And Fuck people who don't see that. The people who label you a sellout or a prep just becuase you actually try to make money. They suck ass. I know a couple people like that. They just wanna sit around, get drunk, and play video games. They go to "school" just so their parents don't bitch at them. then they go to parties at least 5 times a week. Losers.... Then have the nerve to critique my car fascination and all others who woudl rather spend time constructively than wasting air next to them getting drunk.

"Critics-MURDERERS!"

So, props to you for going to law school. Anyone says you're stuck up, tell them nissanfanatic said to fuck off? K?

Sometimes it's unfortunate that the cop can ultimately choose what it is. If he were having a bad day or was just a prick (either is what that cop was most likely) then you can get the shaft.

On the otherhand a cop who's having a goodday may just give you a warning. Oh well, you win some and you lose some (or a lot in this case)

Working at a Truck Stop for 20 years has given me the opportunity to get to know quite a few state and local cops, one thing I can tell you is if you want to hear some really funny stuff, listen to a few cop stories as their nothing compared to what you see on the "COPS" TV show, but on the same token you also hear the gory stuff to. Anyway just about every cop I have ever met has said the same thing, a lot of what ultimately happens when they pull somebody over is going to depend on the demeanor (read attitude) of the person(s) they pull over on whether they get off with a warning, a ticket, or just plain hauled off to the slammer.

Sometimes they have no choice in the matter, it is entirely possible that the Ft. Wayne PD might be silently (as in not even announcing the fact to the media) clamping down on Street Racing of any kind and thus the officers have been ordered by their superiors to come down hard on that activity, you really don't know. True there is some out there that might take their "authority" to the next level, but for the most part they are just as down to earth as you and me and like the jobs we do, they have to do theirs too.

Sure it's easy to say "I got the shaft" when you get caught, but you know what, nobody made them do a WOT run on a public road even if it was for 2 seconds but themselves, it's just rather unfortunate that the cops saw them do it and thus had no choice but to react.
