2001 Durango A/C works only on rear

I just came back from the shop. I took the Durango because the A/C was blowing hot air in the front. The back is working right (a little low though). I though it only needed a recharged, but...

The guys at the shop checked the system, evacuated the refrigerant, and refilled it again, but the same problem persist. The guy is saying it could be the A/c control unit, but was not sure.

Anyone has have this problem before? Any ideas??

You sure your heater door is closing? What do they mean by control unit?

I am refering to the central console where the switches are. The guy at the shop mentioned that for some reason the heating was not disengaging, and he said it was because of a failure on the control unit.

any thoughts??

Thanks

You can test his diagnosis quickly and easily by clamping your heater hose off under the hood and trying the A/C. If the air is colder, than he's found your problem.

Thanks. Sorry for the dumb question, but how do I disconnect the heater?

I had the same problem with my 2000 durango. However, after having my mechanic charge up the freon, all air is working now.

Re: 2001 Durango A/C works only on rear

Well, I tried with the heater trick and no results. I already had the system recharged but this didn't solve the problem.

I read somewhere that this could be a problem with the computer and that it could be solved by reseting it.

Any ideas on how to reset the computer???

Thanks

Your problem sounds a lot like mine. In my case, I had the system apart, so I had completely discharged it, pumped it down for a good 45 minutes, and refilled it with the correct charge. I'm still not doing well up front. I'd say I'm about 10 degrees from where I need to be (blowing about 60 to 65 degrees). All the while, the back seems to be cooling fine.

I'm suspecting that the front expansion valve on mine isn't doing its job properly. If it were a single unit (no back), I think the guages would show this, but with the back unit providing an alternative flow for the freon, I'm wondering if the pressures are reading correctly, incorrectly - does that make sense.

Anyway, I'm not sure what the computer would be doing with the A/C, but if you just want to reset it, so to speak, you could disconnect your negative battery cable for 5 or 10 mintes and then reconnect it. This will erase any runtime information stored, as well as any OBD II codes.

I've been looking for similar input with a separate post, but no responses have proven useful.
