Angry rearend noise

Hello all, I got a 93 GC, 8 cyl, 5.2L, am getting a wooo... noise coming from the back of the vehicle, my mechanic says the differential went bad, so he rebuild it and the noise still there, this wooo... sound gets louder as you accelerator, anyone can help?

What did he "rebuild"????

Do you have a list of parts that he replaced??

Did you see the old parts he took out???

There are 3 common sources of noise made by a rear end: 1, differential bearing noise: 2, gear noise (ring and pinion); 3, wheel bearing noise.

From you description, I take it that the noise is quite loud. If that's the case, my first guess is the pinion bearings are causing it.

Might also be some other things like the exhaust pipe touching the frame when you accelerate or worn bushings in the control arms that position the axle. These type of things transmit and amplify sound and can make locating the cause more tricky.

Sometimes front bearings "sound" like the noise is coming from the back too.

Hey JD,
He change out all the bearings only, he shown me a list of 5 bearing he changes out, now he said its may be the gears, so am going to shop for a used rear-end. will let you know.
