94 ESCORT "FUEL CUT OUT" PROBLEM....

Hello, yesterday I was driving home in my 94 ford escort, then there was this noise, when I arrived home I noticed the band was almost cut. small parts from the belt were stuck in the crank pulley but all of it was removed and the new one installed, now the car won't start, it does make the starting noise but it don't turn on the engine, there is a " fuel cut out" warning light that turns on at the control panel, and it smells like gas,we checked the inertia switch and it is on, we have checked that gas is entering the injectors ( with the valve that is on one of the metallic lines) and it is, we have checked the manual but it does not give us any orientation, so this is all that has happened, any advice?? what else do we check ??.........THANKS TO ALL.

I wonder what is making the fuel cut-out light come on Did the timing belt break or the alternator belt?

It was the alternator belt, the only belt that goes on one side and moves the alternator, air conditioning ,etc. thanks.

The car should run fine without that belt so maybe it's something unrelated? It's possible the belt got hung up in the timing belt and threw the timing off. I would crank it over and give it a quick shot of starting fluid to the intake hose. If it fires then it's a fuel problem.
