Ignition Switch Faulty

Just curious to see if anyone else has had this problem. I have a 2002 TB and just got it back from a 2 and a half-day stay at the shop. It was starting intermediately and I have a remote starter installed (or had one installed). During the diagnosing of the problem, the shop took the remote starter out and then found that it was not the remote starter, but a bad ignition switch. The dealership near by said that they have had quite a few TB's in with this problem.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Does anyone want a remote starter? It's all there (CrimeStopper) just not in my car and I don't feel like wiring it back up.

Thanks!

Mike

I had the same problem with my 03. Just got it back from the shop. I also got indicators that brakes need to be serviced and that the to service 4wd soon. Service manager said service lights were caused by ingnition switch, I dont think this was the case. Lots of electrical problems i think.

It has been 2 weeks and the '02 TB has been at the chevy dealership with a massive electical problem. When my TB wouldn't start, I had AAA come and they bypassed the starter and it started. But, non of the electrical equipment worked (no air conditioning, no power windows, no gauges, no AC, no nothing!) But, I could drive it to the dealership. Then, the mechanics thought that it was a bad BCM and said that they were going to replace that and the entire wiring harness for it. They did but when I went to pick it up, it did the same thing as before. No start. So, here I am with a '04 POS Chevy Cavalier and my TB is still in the shop.
Anyone have any idea of what this may be? It seems to be Intermittent.
Thanks!

Re: Ignition Switch Faulty

There are a couple grounds that will cause this problem. They wiggle loose or build up a little corrosion and cause all kind of problems.
There are a few TSBs on different concerns on these vehicles..have the dealer check for bulletins.
Here are a couple I come up with
#02-08-64-017
#02-06-04-015
#02-06-03-001
Also the ignition switch could cause this...even though you had one installed doesn't mean its not bad either

Re: Ignition Switch Faulty

Me being an owner of a shop that specializes in remote starts, I have to tread water carefully on these. Unfortunately, GM has had problems with this all across the board on all GM platforms. It's sad that when a dealer tech calls into GM techline that the first thing they ask is "is there any aftermarket items including a remote start installed on this vehilce". Unfortunately, I have lossed a lot of money because of GM's screwed up ignition systems but also have won a few too.

I had a friend that bought a brand new G-am. I installed a real nice Python remote start for her within days of bringing it home. About a year later she had problems with it starting. Before I could look at it, she had it towed to the dealer. They quickly said it was the Remote Start and wanted to rip it out and charge her $500 for a new ignition switch and harness. Well, that was until I called them and had them look up the TSB on it. Ended up under warranty and everything has been OK since.

Re: Ignition Switch Faulty

I have an '03 TB. I went over some rough pavement and several lights lit on the dash and I lost throttle (engine still running). After a few seconds, it fixed itself and I drove on. Went to start it later that afternoon and when I keyed on, the dash went crazy and it would not engage the starter. (Everything else seemed to work). Had it towed in and they said it was due to a bad ignition switch... I think they said no power from circuit 3...

Re: Ignition Switch Faulty

Had my ignition switch replaced today. The TB stopped cold, no power, @ 60mph on interstate. Had to coast off the next exit, and then no start. Would spin every other turn of the key, but no start. Locked the tranny in P, would not shift to N. Towed to dealer, and fixed under warranty.

Got lucky I guess...

Re: Re: Ignition Switch Faulty

Do you have any further information on the recall for this? Or do you know where I might be able to look?

Ignition Switch

03 TB....45000mi.

Last week..... going down the road at 65, dash gauges going crazy, lights flashing on and off, gongs and chimes going nuts, stops dead cold.

Towed in...ignition switch...cost me $100 deductable on Ex Warranty.

From what I see on this forum, this is a pattern, If anyone has a bulletin number on this please post......I'll go after GM.!!!!!!

TB's on a scale of 1 to 10....about a 4. Lousy mileage, noisy engine and lots of wind noise.

My ignition switch is on the fritz!

Never died or anything...just lost 1st, 2nd & 4rth gear!!!! WTF??!!!

Dealership said that it would be fine to drive it as is if it is only short miles, but still it is a pain in the arse for it to be doing this!

The only light that came on was the "Service engine soon" light.
When I first start it, it will start in 1st, & then shift hard into 2nd & then hard into 3rd where it stays.

I am going to see if they can check out the trans as well since it can't be doing that any good.

FYI, I haven't had the Predator Power Programmer on it for a while now....just didn't like the way it was working anymore so.......I know it wasn't from that.
