Heya buddie, sorry to piss in your post toasties but I'd recommend NOT to get involved in street racing. It is sorely overrated and is a BIG risk of your life and others around you. I don't know how experienced you are, but at 16, the majority of kids get the wrong ideas that they are bulletproof.

Go join the SCCA and get in some track time in a safe environment. It's a yearly membership and you'll learn alot more about your ability to control your car and what your car can and can't do. Tossing your F-Body around a road course or a Solo/Auto-X course is alot of fun, and you get to see a good amount of high end cars (depending on your location).

Well your Firebird already has a little more HP than the Mustang. a little btw is 15 more HP, now it comes down to driver and what you have done obviously. Something that you can do for starters is get a cold air intake, which if you do it yourself, home depot style you can get it for very cheap. a way to make sure your car is running great is if you get a tune up, or just get new plugs/wires for cheapest thing to do. If you got a nice amount of money say something around $100 dollars you can buy some exhaust, which will increase your horses a bit more. This is what you can do that is cheapest for now. Goodluck on your race

Well first off, welcome to Automotive Forums! The 3.4's don't tend to be the fastest V6's around. Pretty slow actually. First thing I would suggest doing is buying an SLP cold air intake kit. That's definately a worthwhile mod, and gives your engine a nice throaty growl. Next is exhaust. You're going to need headers, no doubt about it. But whatever you do, don't go with the Pacesetter ones. I just bought those and they're absolute crap. Go with the RKSport ones. I haven't yet tried those myself, but they can't nearly be half as bad as the Pacesetter ones. And finally, get a good hi-flow cat, and a cat-back exhaust. Stay away from Flowmasters. Those things will rob you in performance and give you a crappy sound that'll drive ya crazy. I went with Borla (still have yet to get it installed). Cost me $555 off eBay. May be too expensive for you, so I'd suggest Magnaflow cat-back if you're on a budget. Here's a good place to shop for 3.4 performance parts. http://www.ftpp.net/V6Main.htm

That right there would guarantee you a race vs. your friends 3.8L Mustang. Not to mention that right there should put you somewhere near the 200 HP mark. Check out my CarDomain page if you would like some ideas for your car. It's the "www" at the bottom of my post's.

But as WarShrike said, street racing is extremely dangerous. Especially at 16. I know when i was 16, I didn't have the slightest clue as to how a car worked. If this is your case as well. Then I'd HIGHLY suggest that you went to www.howstuffworks.com and type in "car engines" in their search bar on the top right. I'm not trying to assume that you know nothing about cars, but at 16, most kids don't. I'm simply saying that you should take precautions and learn how your car works before you take her to the streets like that. It'd be sad to see you get in a crash and have another bird off the road, and you possibly wind up in the hospital or even dead. I've never street raced my car, and I've had it for over a year now. It's just not smart, but if you must, then make you sure do it as safely as possible. Block off all roads that intersect with the road your racing on and stuff like that.

GREAT SCOTT! That's good to hear. I'd recommend looking into some minor suspension upgrades as well. I'm drooling at this set 1LE suspension kit online right now...

Considering I don't do any drag racing, my advice would be more geared to road course and auto-x stuff. If you don't have a rear end with a good posi or differential, I'd defenitely reccommend getting it upped so you can get power to both rears.
