gear oil in the tranny - how bad?

to make a long story short, i found out just now that my 97 escort had its 5spd transmission filled with what looks like gear oil for hte last five months/3k miles instead of ATF. shifts fine, as far as i can tell.

i was planning on draining it, putting a quart of atf in there and rolling aroudn the driveway, draining it again, and then filling with atf

anything else i shouild think about?
