possessed?? for real this time!

ok here we go. the 99 grand cherokee was running fine. went to go start it again and nothing. the gages are going crazy speedo and tack both going all over the place. there are clicking noises and flutering of the gages even when i turn the car off!! so i tried to jump start it because it would not even turn over. i got it to run but will not stay runnung without my foot on the gas, nor will it restart agiain when i turn it off without another jump start. also the odometer flashes and the power locks will not work. the power window do work. while driving it home with 2 feet the abs and airbag lights were coming on. i was thinking remote starter but i unpluged it and nothing. no CEL either!

any ideas will be greatly appretiated!! i'm totally lost on this one

Have you checked for an error code? Might lead you down the right path. To do this just put your key in the ignition and turn it on-off-on-off-on and watch the odometer for your error code. Hope this helps.

but it kind of makes sence that the only systems that are effected (starting / power locks) are the systems comtroled by this alarm. i'm going to try and replace the relays that are controled by the alarm with original ones when i get home tonight.

In my experience, the flickering gauges and locks are all electrical related. On my friend's 2003 with the I-6 the battery died and the gauges went nuts. Also, with my Mom's 1993 when the alt. died and the battery finally didn't have enough juice to keep the engine running, it did the exact same thing. Try running with a good battery connected by jumper cable, see if it will idle, then disconnect the good battery, if it dies, you likely have a problem with the alt. Good luck, keep us posted

I have a 2000 GC and the same thing happened to me last summer. I drove it 150 miles (no problem) shut it down and when I went to start it, there was clicking and guages were going nuts...flipping all over the place. Wouldn't take a jump. had it towed and turned out to be the battery. Apparently one of the cells shorted out and I think I read that somewhere in this forum before. Replace the battery and I think it will be fine.
