what is wrong my stealth starts in 3 gear and stays in 3rd gear

i'm guessing you have an automatic, and as many times as this question has been asked . . . . . long story made short, your tranny has jumped into failsafe mode because there is probably something wrong with it, and its throwing codes, so you will either need to be able to pull the code yourself and figure out whats wrong with it, or take it to a shop or dealership and have them pull the code (of course, i think as far as stealerships go, they charge you for doing that if you dont get it fixed there)
