Porsche 911 RSR 2.8 1973

Giving a try to expose my work (well, actually, I have several going at the same time, this is the "pet project", at the present time).

The car: Roger Penske's Carrera 2.8RSR, Daytona 73. One of two prototypes (they weren´t homologated at the time of the race) entered, this one DNF'd, the other - run by Brumos Porsche - won (and went on to win Sebring).
The kit: Island Collectibles resin 1/24 kit. It gives the option to do the 3 aforementioned versions. Actually, I bought it t make the Targa Florio Martini 3.0 winner, but I ended up buying two (don´t let my wife know, please).
Some comments on the progress: there are areas of doubt I can't find references off, such as the roll-cage and interior colours, so I´m taking a license on those.
Z

The subject and the kit:

Building a more complete roll-cage (the kit has the main hoop plus suports):

The kit mocked-up (this is the Martini, with the lower spoiler shaved and the decals in the back):

Body painted and polished:

With bare-metal foil:

I run a wash of "smoke" on the frames, in order to create some contrast between window frames and body:

The two interior tubs (not much to see here):

The roll-cage, seat, seatbelts and scratchbuild fire bottle:

Have to do this fitting (on the license plate place):

Did a "punching" device with aluminum tubbing to creat small circles of bare-metal foil. Here is the result. The fitting will be done with brass and "grooved" plastic:

Decalling going on. Things went terribly wrong, the number on the door is misplaced and the yellow pin-stripping behind the window broke. Mind you, the decals are very thin, with no clear around the edges and well printed; it is just me rushing up things...

Nice start. How is this Island Collectibles kit? Is there alot of cleanup? Does the body have the right proportions? Sometimes photos dont show the appearance of the shape.
Keep up the good work!

Thank you all. I think I´m going to remove the decals I don't like and, give it another try with the spares... after all, they're just going to go yellow in their plastic bag...

Well, I´m very satisfied with it. Almost no clean up to do, "lots" of decals, instructions "a la" resin kits, but friendly - all written, no drawings, but some reference photos; also, some advice on things that "can go wrong and must be modified" - I like that. Resin, photoetch, vacuform, decals, and thats about it. Simple but (I hope) will turn out beautifull. I´ll report more as I go along.

As for the body, it seems pretty good in shape - in fact, I compared it with a Fujimi Enthusiast Series RS '73 and it looks exactly the same, save for the fender flares, front spoiler and the likes that differ on a RSR. Althought I´m not a specialist, or "a rivet counter", I believe its correct.

Some more progress:

Removed the ofending decals and put new ones, waxed the body, made some positive location for the front running lights, installed headlights and PE window frames (together with acetate vent windows), as well as the fitting in the back of the car. Also done some interior.

Front running lights with wire:

Location for the wire:

Fitting in the back:

General aspect. Door handles and headlight bezels are polished white metal:

Interior: fire bottle and line, ignition box, window cranks (flatened and filed solder) and, suports to the PE pedal faces scratchbuilt.

Thanks for looking.
