I have a 2001 Isuzu Trooper, close to 75k miles on it. On Tuesday my Check Engine & Reduce Power lights came on when I started my vehicle. The vehicle would not go more than 3-5 mph and was pinging and clunking as if it were going to shut off. I took it to the dealer and he could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. However, he did mention that it could be the engine harness wiring and it would cost over $900 to fix, but he could not give me proof that this was the problem (he was only 50% sure). When they test drove the vehicle they did not experience any problems and no lights were on indicating any problems???? It's a mystery. Has anyone experienced this before and have any suggestions?

I'm assuming this is an automatic.

Did the dealer retreive any OBDII codes? As a blind guess, I'd say you have a low system voltage issue. Bad battery, alternator or grounding issue.
G/luck Joel

Check Engine/Reduce Power
I had this same thing happen to me but it was after my car had been idling and died. Apparently I started it up without turning the key completely off. It seems as some part of my alarm system the car was partially disabled. I let the car sit for a few minutes, started it again and it ran OK except the check engine light was still on. This problem occurred after I had already been having problems with the car stalling. The dealer convinced me it was an unrelated problem. Good Luck!
