Need help with brakes
Well, tonight I decided to change the rear brakes on my CRX (disc brakes). The top bolt came out fairly easily. The bottom one I hat to cut the head off using a dremel, and got it out that way.
Now here's my problem, the part that needs to be pushed in with a C-clamp, that part seems to be frozen in place. I bent a solid steel 6-inch C-clamp, but still nothing. I do not have a brake press. First of all, what is this part called, so I can search for creative ways of undoing it, and second I need suggestions on how to release this. Would Autozone have something that I can borrow that would release it?

Re: Need help with brakes
Its the piston, and you dont push it in you screw it in beacuse it uses a spring type parking brake. They make a tool that fits into the grooves and you can use a ratchet, but its just as easy to use a pair of channel locks, just be careful not to tear the boot.

I don't know, out of the 4 bolts that I needed to take out, 3 of them broke (2 for the shield) and 1 for the caliper. My car is just really rusted out. I'll do it tomorrow afternoon.

Re: Need help with brakes
I always used the edge of the old brake pad to turn the piston back in. It fit in the slot when I didn't have a screw driver around and you won't run the risk of tearing up the boot like you would with the channel locks.

That's sorta what I do. To back up the piston I put the old brake pad on it, and c-clamp that and turn...
