Posi Rearend

Anyone know of a good place in Phoenix or Scottsdale to swap out a 1 wheel wonder with 273 gears for 373 posi. It's going in a 73 Camaro that will be street / strip pushing 450HP+.

nope not a clue i live in new jersey. i was just wondering if u have any e.t.'s for the mustang and if so wut r they? please dont crucify me for asking that on a camaro forum i am a chevy guy, im just curious.

I sold the Mustang awhile back, forgot to change my signature. I was running 13.8 @ 102 MPH in the Mustang. Lousy 60 ft times, couldn't hook up well. Now I'm driving a Magnum Hemi wagon for my daily driver and will be starting a new Camaro project soon.

as long as this thread is on the posi rearead what the differance bewteen posi, limited slip, an a detroit locker, i dono if there all really the same or what. dont they all give you power to both rear wheels instead of just the one?

posi = limited slip, they are essentialy an open rear end but have disk or cone style clutch packs to keep friction on the rear end. this friction keeps either tire from freewheeling from lack of traction and keeps power going to both tires. as long as the clutches are in good shape they work fine. but when the clutch packs wear out you have an open rear end again.

a locking rear uses two meshing faceplates to physically lock the two axles together in strait line performance, the system then unlocks to go around corners and operates like an open rear end.

the improoved version of the locking differential is the geared rear end, like the detroit truetrac or zextel torsn unit. this uses a geared drive that actually sends power to the tire with traction rather than the one thats spinning.

and then there are spools. which eliminate the torque biasing and tie the two axles together perminatley, this is a drag only option, as the two tires cannot change speeds to go around corners.

So given a topic about rear ends and given some really tall stock gearing, what is the typical rear end swap gear ratio?

it depends, factory ratios were 2.73, 3.27, 3.42, and on some SLP cars 3.73.

for a good all around ratio i suggest 3.42 as a performance setup and 3.27 for economy.

what bout a 12 bolt moser you mentioned befor , how bid of a challange is it to replace the one already under tha car, an does it come in 3.42 or 3.73

moser is a brand. and you can order whatever gears you want if im not mistaken. its just really expensive. like 2500 dollar expensive. But it just bolts right up. And the chances of you ever breaking it are slim to none.

yup, thats called a open rear end. its assembled in a way that the tire that is spinning gets all the power, and you get no traction.
