Yesterday I noticed that our caravan really needed the front brake pads replaced. I purchased the pads, and installed them, and now have low pedal pressure, and nearly have to push the pedal to the floor.
I took the brake calipers off, used a C-Clamp to press the piston back, so not to allow air into the system, placed the new brake pads in the calipers, and remounted. Of course the brakes felt spongy for the first few pumps, but then started to get solid again. I know the front brakes are working because you hear them grabbing, but while driving, the pedel needs to be nearly to the floor in order to stop. I have check to verify that there is plenty of fuild in the system. In addition, the roters, and calipers were just replaced six months ago, so I know they aren't the issue. Any ideas, or suggestions, would be greatly appreciated. Right know, the only thing I can thing of, is to try to bleed the brakes, although no lines or fittings were open, in hope to remove possibly contaminated fluid. Thank you. |

Re: 98 Caravan Low Brake pedal
Do you have ABS on this vehicle? If you do you may have put crud back into the ABS and it has locked up and is not allowing the fluid to flow properly. It is possible that a good flushing by bleeding the brakes may work to eliminate the problem but if not you may have to take it to a mechanic to have the system serviced.
If you don't have ABS then bleed the brakes anyway and it should restore the brakes to normal. |

Will Do... Thank you. It does have ABS...which I am starting to hate. All the knowledge you have with older vehicles...throw most of that out.
Thank you again... |
