Question Pitman arm

I was just doing a grease job on my TJ and happened to notice that on the steering box side of my pitman arm there is about a 3/4 inch space between the top of my pitman arm and the bottom of the steering box. The nut that holds the pitman arm onto the shaft is barely threaded on, enough to hold the pitman but far from being threaded all the way on. My question is, is there suppose to be alot of clearance on the shaft or has the nut just worked itself loose?

Re: Pitman arm

Space between the pitman arm and the housing is normal.

The splined section that the arm attaches to is master splined and slightly tapered.

So long as the nut is tight and there are a couple of threads showing above the top of the nut, your good to go.
