It's about the stupidest thing I've ever seen, but as I'm sure your aware there are 2 hub retaining screws that hold the rotor in place. They have been in place for so long they're pretty rusty, so I put some liquid wrench on them, wacked them with a BFH and waited a half hour for it to penetrate. First tried a screwdriver and they didn't budge, moved up to a drill but it just rounded out the head of the screw on both of the screws on the LF. Checked this board and geozuki recommended using an impact wrench. Tried this on the RF and it just rounded them off.
I also read that you do not need to put them back on because they were only to make the manufacturing process easier, which I can believe since I've never seen another car that needed them. Whats going to be the easiest way to proceed now? I'm thinking of just drilling the head of the screw off enough that I can slide the rotor over it? I don't see any reason that this wouldn't be the easiest way to proceed, but you guys probably know more than me...what would you recommend? |

not uncommon. I wacked at one for an hour on a parts car I bought. I ended up drilling the head off it, then taking vise grips to the remnants. Don't worry about replacing em. Just drill
It'll save you a lot of time and frustration. Be careful not to drill the rotor tho. Perhaps drill into the head, and then chisel it off with a flat head screwdriver, and the BFH .

Re: How to get rotor off? Hub retaining screw stripped
If I'm replacing the rotor it shouldn't matter if I drill into it - should it? (as long as I don't go through the rotor and drill into the plate that the lug studs anchor into...)

Drill the hell out of it
If you drill far enough to get to the hub, you'd shred the bit apart!
