Intake slug

I was replacing my air filter and I noticed that rubber 'y' shaped tube was loose. I messed with it and knocked it even more loose. I tried to get it back the way it was but it was hard as hell. Now when I drive I hear a faint sucking noise. That's ok, but the car runs like crap. I thought I heard someone say this piece is the intake silencer. I don't know but how can I fix this? Any reply will help, I need to fix this before I hit the track in a week. Thanks.

Are you talking about the hose that goes from the valve-cover to the intake? That is the breather hose that releases positive crank-case pressure back into the system... shouldn't really have much of an effect on the way the car is running really... just means that the valve cover is venting gasses into the engine bay, rather than back to the intake manifold.

I think he means the one that connects the air box to the resonator. You could just wiggle it around till it seats itself or you could just remove it, it's not really needed, I took mine off

Yes, I'm talking about the piece connected to the airbox. I took it completely off but the car is so slow now. What can I do to fix this?

Oh yeah... the intake resonator is basically a muffler for your intake... totally not required, and actually, might allow for better airflow if disconnected (but the difference would be mostly unnoticeable).

You didn't accidentally somehow plug the intake tube restricting air did you?

Now I don't know. I don't think it's the silencer anymore since I put it back in place. I'm still hearing a hiss when I drive. A buddy of mine said it might be a vacuum line. Unfortunately I don't know which one. Does anyone know of a diagram or something I can check out.

easyest way to find a vacume leak is a spray bottle with water in it

I've got it fixed. Turns out it was a bad cat. Fixed it and took care of everything. Thanks for the help guys.

what i did was take the hole filter box off and mounted the filter right to the cover of the box with the four screws and brackets the box has, just wish i would have put a K&N filter on instead of the stock one. But doin that and taking the baffle plate out(this was when i had a dx with dpfi) felt a small gain, but i dont know how this would help if you have a mpfi.

Actually, that loud whistle was from the cat. That's gone too.
