Question intermittant service engine soon light

I have a '97 chevy s-10 pu that displays an occasional service engine soon light shortly after filling up with gas. I have replaced the gas cap with a new one and it still happens. The light usually will go out when it reaches about the 3/4 tank level. Any ideas?

Get the codes read, then you know what's wrong.

Aparently Autozone will read them for free, and I believe that Canadian tire will too. (no promises on Canadian tire)

Quick, easy fix.
Probably about $35.00 or so for the part, and then your laughing

Not quite $35. Try $210-260. Took off and cleaned carbon off and now works fine.

Re: intermittant service engine soon light

Ouch, 210+ for a simple EGR, that's INSANE.

glad that cleaning it worked out then, and I hope that it lasts a long time.

stealership; That's a new one to me Doug, I like it.

I'm almost afraid to ask how everything is going with your truck.
I hope that everything is working out

Re: intermittant service engine soon light

Well I got that problem straightened out. I just got this truck last week. It has 70,000 miles on it. I bought it at a used dealership and took it to have the transmission fluid changed and the garage did one of those 20 point inspections including checking the coolant. Later that day on my way home the temp guage started to fluctuate back and forth from 100 to 240 degrees. Here the assholes didn't tighten my radiator cap and half my coolant boiled out.
