Question CRX HF Check Engine Light on but car runs fine - problem?

I have an '89 CRX HF with stock drivetrain, 172k miles. The Check Engine Light has recentlly started glowing after driving about 2 miles and stays on. The car runs perfectly but the manual says CEL means a fuel injection problem. Should I worry or put electrical tape over the CEL? Now that I think of it maybe once a month it takes 45 seconds to start instead of the usual 2 seconds when the motor's hot...

Any ideas?

EC

Pull the carpet back (unbutton it) from the passenger side floor, and when your car is running count the red blinks. There is a chart in the FAQ section that tells how many blinks = what your problem is... GL

Nah, just put electrical tape over the CEL. In fact, remove your guage cluster and take out the CEL bulb so that you don't have that onsightly electrical tape there on the console. Then make sure to cover your ECU in tin-foil to prevent the radiation from leaking into the passenger compartment. A tin-foil hat would probably be a good idea as well. I've heard that helps thwart police radar too.

LMAO! Hey I took out my CEL bulb... I'm gonna try that tinfoil thing since I live 5 miles from 3 nuclear reactors. Maybe that's why I have this third eye growing out of my shoulder...

Hey, I had an '85 BMW 325e with 220k miles on it that had idiot lights for everything under the sun, a big bank of lights above the rear view mirror that would come on randomly with or without a problem. The check oil light would be on when the crankcase was full, etc. I finally just pulled the plug on the #$%^&*() thing.

I'm already using the tinfoil hat for birth control - pretty effective, hahaha.

I'll check to see what codes it's throwing.

Thanks,

EC

It's code 12 - EGR. It's a california car, so it should have one, but I can't find it under the hood. No vacuum lines broken or missing. It runs fine....

Hey E

89 crx's don't have an egr set-up
And you can check your vacuum lines with the label under the hood.
If it is still there
Have fun
