Stereo (deck) install question

Hi, I'm trying to install a replacement stereo in my 91 civic after some butthole stole it and trashed the dash. I can't seem to find a dash mount kit anywhere for it.

Does it need one? Now I'm starting to wonder if maybe they stole some crucial stock bit that makes the stereo fit, so that's why I can't find a mount kit.

Should I be going to a junkyard to find one of these things? Anyone happen to have a pic so I know what to get? The local import junkyard has all the stereo stuff in a big pile so I dont necessarily know what car each piece comes out of.

This car had no radio and a busted dash when I bought it due to some other butthole thief and nothing is more depressing than having to fix all this again, AND not remembering how I managed to install the previous deck.

People suck. I was actually about to sell this car when this happened too - I love driving it, but I inherited a newer car and AC + airbags wins and parking is too tight to keep both. I was thinking of maybe buying a newer civic hatch since I think they're fun to drive (like a go kart!) but now I'm reading that civic's are super easy to bust into and having dealt with this twice now I believe it.

you dont need a kit but if they broke the peice where the stereo mounts then i would just get the whole lower console part its like 10 bucks at the junkyard by my house and any civic 88-91 should have it. it mouns under the ac/heat controls if u wanna see a pic look on ebay search 88-91 civic and look under interior

hmm, is the lower console just something that attaches to the stereo and has "ears" that you can screw into to mount the thing? I think this is what I'm missing, but I can't find a pic on ebay or w/ google. thanks, i'll stop by the junkyard and see if i can find anything.

The lower console piece bolts up over that. What you need is just a little metal bracket. I bet any civic will have a smilar piece with the "ears" you need to hold your stereo in place.

OK, so finally I resolved this.

I called at least 6-7 import junkyards and no dice. Lots of the later model style with a "pocket" under the radio, but nothing for my single DIN console. Called a half dozen stereo installers, no install kits available.

Finally I got lucky - the last stereo installer I talked to told me that the part I needed is available from the dealer. So, in case anyone else comes across this thread, the bracket that's missing was a black rectangular piece of plastic and the Honda dealer had it for like $16 or so.

I am always surprised to find out that the dealer still carries some parts for this 15 year old car.
