engine swap

i have a 1996 honda civic dx and i can't figure out what engine to use. i think it should be the acura integra type r gsr with a nice turbo kit but my buddy says those engines suck and break all the time and he says a single cam 1.6 b16 would tare a gsr out the frame.

Re: engine swap

Your friend doesn't know what he's talking about. The B16a is a DOHC engine, not SOHC. And the GS-R engine (as well as the Type R engine) are more powerful than the b16a. And they don't break down easy, as long as you do the regular maintenance on them, just like any other engine. Skip the Type R engine because it has high compression and won't be as reliable with boost. But whatever engine you go with, make sure to get it professionally tuned if you're going to really boost it.

Re: engine swap

You're friend obviously knows nothing about Hondas. The DOHC's do get more air flow, which is a good thing. They also have the vtec lobes and fairly high compression to push the air and make use of it. and with a turbo, you want more air flow, not less. Do NOT listen to your friend, he's an idiot and doesn't have a clue about Hondas; and I doubt he knows about car in general after making those claims. DSM's are nice and can make insane power. Their RWD and AWD cars have an obvious advantage with connecting the power to the ground, but they also lose power thru the drivetrain. It's like comparing apples and oranges, both have their advantages and weaknesses.

Re: engine swap

DOHC has a lot more potential than sohc, why do you think they are so popular, and tell your "buddy" that he needs to drive his DSM off a cliff and make sure hes in it. oh man this thread cracks me up.
