So I finally street race and of course there just happens to be a state trooper there

Common ... me street race? Pleeeease, gotcha.

Seriously though, on the way to work today I was on a particualr route that is one lane, but it occassionally opens up to 2 lanes for passing going up hills. So I bang out into the passing line to get by this lady and I see an 18-wheeler struggling up the hill with his flashers on ... so I nail it figuring I can pass him as well.

Who wants to be stuck behind a truck ~ right?

So I hit 90 mph in my little 88 MR2 and I see the "DO NOT PASS" sign about to be covered by the truck so I go whizzing by literally as the dotted lines end ... and right before a car pulls out in front of me!

AAACKKK .... double ack .... it's a state trooper!

I squeeze the brakes hard playing a balancing act between completing the pass on the truck and not flying into the back of the police car all while not making it obvious that I am trying to chill from 90+ mph.

*whew*

Within 1/4-mile the tropper pulls into the station that is along the road.
2 minutes later my balls fell back down, heart rate returned and I had the goofy-weird adrenaline sensation spreading out through my arms.

God I hate commuting

You should have driven Hyde to work. That way the pass would not have been a problem for you.

I've driven Hyde to work on occassion. I don't any more since the meter lot next to my job doubled it's prices. It's not so much the expense, but I would have to feed the meter every hour and that sucks.

I should video tape Hyde being driven on the street "normal" sometime ... it's funny to see people's reactions to the car

I prefer driving an older MR2 daily because they are underpowered which keeps me out of trouble (usually). They are also really inexpensive so I don't worry about them so much. They are also amazing on gas

Remember that rush you felt as the state trooper pulled in front, and the sensation of whizzing through a course that isn't guided by cones?

That's the same feeling the steet racers look for...it's a much more exhilarating feeling racing in the street than on the trak.

uhm ... Raz, are you aware that I used to street race? I used to race several nights a week in fact. I used to go hunting regularly.

I assure you I am no stranger to the "rush" of street racing, but there are some rushes that are just not worth it. Sometimes things happen and you realize it is not worth it. There are reasons I no longer street race.

Oh, and the rush of going 120 mph into a blind turn in the oncoming lane on a public road during an sanctioned SCCA hill climb event is far greater than a typical street race

i think he is one step closer to telling us wy he stopped streetracing. Cause it must have been something big that stopped you from streetracing isn't it, JH?

The cone reference was an example of a close circuit meaning that even if your racing on a sectionned part of a city's road it does not have the surprises as every day traffic.

No I was not aware of your previous street racing experience, I'm sure you have your reasons, I just thought you didn't want to do it.
