What's my Wobble?

My drive wheel feels like it isn't balanced sometimes. I just got new tires mounted and balanced at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago. Thing is.. it doesn't do it all the time. Sometimes it rides smooth as glass. The problem occurs most often when decellerating. Maybe those bastards at walmart don't know how to use their machine. The front, drivers side wheel has like 1 six inche and 2 1 inch weights on it but rides smooth. Does that sound alright or do I need to have them turn the tire on the wheel. If balance on that rear tire is not my issue what else could it be.

Re: What's my Wobble?

What size tires are you running. The bigger you go, the harder they can be to balance.

255/50/16... don't think that should be too much of a problem.

Re: What's my Wobble?

It's coming from the rear. If it's not balance issues I dont know where to look but like I said it doesn't do it all the time. One day I'll get around to taking it back to walmart and getting it all rotated and balanced again.

I have the same problem but seems like its's wobbling from the front drivers side, tires are from Les Schwab, LT315/75R16, Re-checked balance on all 4, alignment is dead on, no slop in bearings, wobbles around 57 mph. '01 4x4 silverado W/ 3" Rancho suspension lift. Last set of tires were badly cupped. These are starting to cup too with regular tire rotation. They said "big tires will do that" I think that's bull .....HELP!

Re: What's my Wobble?

Its not because of big tires. However, it could be as a result of the lift. All of your factory angles and geomotry are off now. Check the entire steering linkage, but most importantly is the IFS arm angle to the ground. This is a preety commen thing in Jeeps, check the Cherokee forum, you'll see plenty of what to dos.

Re: What's my Wobble?

My '99 does the same thing. The Michelin tires and KYB shocks are in good shape. No lift kit.
Mine seems to get worse with heat. I thought it was a bent rotor but it persists for seconds after the brake is released. A bent wheel should do it all the time. Maybe a driveshaft problem? Maybe a belt in the tire is broken? If you get an answer please let me know.

Re: What's my Wobble?

When you have the tire balance checked, have them check the tire for true roundness(?). I had a set of 36/14.5-15's at one time on an old Blazer, and had to have one pair if them shaved true. One of the tires balanced ok, but was so out of round that at anything over 55 the truck would literally start dancing down the road. I just kept my speed down for the longest time, and what finally made me fix it was crawling under the truck and finding a shock torn out of the mount on the axle from the vibration. Your 255's shouldn't have this bad a problem, but it might be worth checking. Kenny, this might be your issue, because mine were cupping like you described.
