dear Mr Eastwood: being a moderate is so easy. you accept what happens as the reality of the situation and thats it. stay a moderate long enough and you end up wallowing in your own shit.

hows this? "extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice; moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue."-barry goldwater of all people (often attributed to Malcolm X)

and most republicans IVE encountered would disagree with on the implication of the above statements. it would go like this: "sure, we should own up for our mistakes, but nuking japan was necessary, agent orange was a hazard of war, stealing the native americans land and wiping their culture from the face of the earth was our divine right, establishing maniacal dictators in south america was in our best interest, etc etc etc"

or

"yes, we should protect individual liberty, but god hates fags"

or

"yeah, the founding father had some high ideals, but we're only human after all. corruption is just a fact of life. we have to look past that..."

im sure you get the point.

I like this quote!

"the best way to convert liberals is to have them move out of their parents' home, get a job, and start paying taxes."

Re: I apologize for "Screwing up America"

im out of the house, have a job with responsability, pay taxes, invest in a 401k, and am saving for a new car.

while i dont consider myself liberal (i did vote libertarian in the last election) i would like to point out that none of those things "cured" me. im still a vehement social libertarian, and unlike most americans, do not suffer from amnesia when looking back on our countries history.

though one often forgets when slinging labels that the modern labels of "liberal" and "conservative" actually capture very little of the political spectrum.

*nice to see you around flatrater*

Re: I apologize for "Screwing up America"

Hey I thought my quote was funny. You guys need to relax alittle and have some fun. All this stress and conflict isn't good for you.

I like reading this forum and try to read every post made, but you have to understand we will never change anyone's opnions be it liberal or con so just state your belief and don't get upset if someone's belief differs from yours.

Re: I apologize for "Screwing up America"

i hear ya. and i understand it was all in fun. but you see, while all the people on this forum know that we can seperate our politcal beliefs from our oppinions of the people behind them, alot of people cant. i know yellow dog democrats who wont talk to republicans, simply because they're republican. and heres a republican attacking people...personally, for not being republican. all i was doing was offering my side.

didnt mean to come across as a fun hating bastard.

Re: I apologize for "Screwing up America"

If Kerry was a republican and Bush was a democrat I would of voted for Bush. Just becaise I believe in the republican ideals doesn't mean I will always vote republican. If you look at my views on labor I side with the democrats.

I guess I should of put a smilie in my post, maybe that would of helped out.

I don't think I've ever encountered anyone that would saying even remotely as stupid as the things you just said. Blanket generalizations about a group of people who share certain political ideals is really a waste of time, and shows an inability to judge people on an individual basis. Though I'm sure you'll say that my conservative values are destroying my ability to think and reason.

Excellently put.

Lazysmurf, don't generalize. I'm conservative but you don't see me saying ridiculous crap like that. Nuking innocents is never "necessary"; it's lazy. God doesn't hate fags, especially not if he's as good as they say he is.

That's like saying all Muslims like to blow themselves up on trains because a few psychotic bastards happen to share (term used loosely) a religion with them.

you must live in arkansas. its all over the place. but, if you seek proof, do a few searches on this forum, and you'll see members of this very forum saying those things. i didnt make that shit up.

just going on what i see. yes, blanket generalizations are wrong. but i didnt make those generalizations did i? i said, most republicans ive actually encountered. not a generalization, but a statement of fact.

but pardon me for getting a whee bit general when an entire movement of people is unfairly characterized as whackos and cowards by the right.

what on earth gave you that idea? do your homework, and find out who i voted for in the last election. chances are, i make you look liberal.
