Why do corollas idle so damn high?

Why is it that my 97 corolla idles so high all the time (1100-1700RPM) on a regular basis. It rarely drops too normal operating temperature to 700RPM only if i'm doing alot of stop and go driving. My brothers integra idles at 700RPM all the time, no matter what the temperature outside. I love my corolla but it becomes annoying when driving stick. Anyway to get around this?
