starting problems!

i changed the battery and alternator, now heres the problem im having, not all the time but it does happen from time to time, when i go to try and start the car it doesnt turn, nothing, thats why i thought it was the battery, plus the battery was old so it needed changing anyways, so im thinking its either the starter or the ign, how would i know which one is causeing the problem, when it turns over the starter sounds fine, doesnt wine or anything but im not sure if somethin is loose or the ign is starting to go, any help would be great because im afraid of getting stuck somewhere and not be able to get it started. BTW its on my 88GT with 161k on her

wow... my '88GT does the same thing, but only when it's cold.... i think it has something to do with the cheap ass starter wires that GM put on from factory. My cousin's GT used to crap out like that too, but then he replaced all of this starter wires, igniton wires, and a whole load of stuff... so we're not quite sure which one really was the problem...lol
I would have tried to fix mine, but it's getting an engine swap anyways...lol
If you find what the problem is let me know...

changing the start might help.
I'd start with replacing the main cable to the starter, and the ground cable from the battery first. It's alot cheaper than replacing the starter first. If that don't help, it must be the starter, unless it's in the starter relay, or ignition. But that would be just plain weird if that was the case.
Well, good luck.

Re: starting problems!

sounds like you got a dead spot in you starter try taping on it with a hammer when it happens while some one else is turnig it over if it starts its a bad starter if it doesnt try testing for power at the starter when someone is hold the key on start if there is no power replace ingn switch and try again these switchs are cheap if not get a shop to look at the wires for you they can run draw test and load test and others to confirm the problem good luck
