rear wiper
Is this a worn out motor or what ?? Just checking to see if anyone else had this problem.
2003 Montana w/105000 kms I went to use the rear wiper the other day and it just stopped working half way up the window. Started troubleshooting and discovered that if I pull off the wiper blade and arm,,,the shaft works left to right with ease. If I reinstall the wiper blade with arm, I guess the friction of the blade to the window creates too much resistance to the motor and it stops, unless I help it along. I have read on these forums problems with the little plastic gear, is that what this is, or is it maybe a weak or worn out wiper motor ?? |

When you help it along do you hear a noise like a skipping gear when it first grabs? I would bet it is the little plastic gear that is stripped. I had to buy the whole wiper module because the gear can't be bought separately (maybe now you can but I don't think so) I kept my old module rather than getting back the $40 core charge because I figure if the motor goes at least I will have a $40 replacement part rather than the cost of the whole wiper module again.
Good luck, Mark |

Same thing just happened to mine (2000,82K miles). Is this an easy repair?

Pretty straight forward repair. You need to be careful when removing the interior plastic trim. It is large and bulky so have an extra set of hands to hold it. Also, you need to be careful prying the plastic posts that secure it. I damaged one trying to remove it.
