Fix AC or risk major trouble?

Hey,

New at this, and my husband would laugh his ass of if he knew I was posting, BUT.....

We both drive 91 Honda Civics, his hatchback and mine standard. We have not had AC for 2 years, and recently the hatchback left my husband on the side of the road b/c a belt broke having to do with the AC unit.....whatever that means. So, he had the belts, etc., disconnected surrounding the compressor/AC.

We now have the $ to fix one of the cars, and he says we need to do mine ASAP before it leaves me on the side of the road. He says that whenever you leave something broken and unattended, it will cause further problems. I really could care less about the AC.....

SO, should I fix it? And most importantly, how much should it really cost?

THANKS!

Re: Fix AC or risk major trouble?

The ac not working will have nothing to do with anything else messing up on the car, infact alot of people completely remove the ac to remove extra weight.

Re: Fix AC or risk major trouble?

I guess it depends on what caused the failure to begin with. Did the compressor sieze causing the belt to break? I'd have it looked at. As for Ac. I live in Florida. AC is a must! Not to mention you'll get more for the car when you sell it if the AC is working.

No AC here... just a nice little button that lights up when you press it...

Just get the AC fixed and enjoy...

Yes, the compressor in his did seize up, breaking a belt. I am just wondering what the chances are of that happening normally.....is it something common? Might it happen to mine as well?

An old belt may have a tendency to break. If your belt looks good you should be fine.

Edit: Compressors seize up, but I don't think it's a defect...
