Re: headlight flicker
I had the "high pitched whirring sound" when first starting a cold engine. And I also experienced the "head-light flickering". I had the air injectin pump changed (along with some "retro-type" fittings to prevent future pump wear) and it took care of the high pitched whirring sound but I have still seen the head lights flicker....maybe not as much as before but I've definitely seen them flicker. BOTTOM LINE ( my opinion) the headlight flicker is due to the alternator.

I have a 2002 Intrigue with the flickering headlights. Would this be the same alternator # to replace the old one, Did it do the trick ?? Txs.

Re: Re: Re: headlight flicker
basically you have 3 options:
1. buy the same old alternator or a refurb based on the old alternator (worst option) 2. take a chance on the new style, redesigned (new part #) gm alternator 3. get the Bosch alternator (search this forum for Bosch) |

Re: Re: headlight flicker
The Bosch alternator: #AL8736x or AL8736x
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/cata...&parttype=2412 RockAuto has it but they want $350 + 100 for the core. That's way too much since people were saying that they got it for $150. I would call your local Napa auto parts (I did they want $450 + $100 core). They carry Bosch alternators. $200 may be a fair price, anything over that and I would get a rebuilt under the new GM part #10464469 GR 2.275 or the new GM one. I never changed my alternator, it has gotten better over time. But mine was bad. Where it says search this thread enter Bosch and read all the info. Enter alternator and read all the Intrigue forum info also. I read through a lot of the posts again and I don't know what to say. It seems like the Bosch unit works, but I would use it as a last resort due to the price they now charge. Read all the posts here. Talk to a alternator rebuilder with a lot of experience and that maybe can rebuild and test your alternator for you with a new regulator. Make sure all the electrical connections are clean and tight and good luck. Some people have replaced their alternator 3-4 times and still no fix. Good luck!! I'm just glad mine isn't that bad--but you notice it more in the Wintertime when it is darker. Maybe the RockAuto Bosch alternator is the best deal at $350 + core?
