Some of the things you were charged for are excessive IMHO...properly mixed coolant...2 gallons of antifreeze...paint an engine..1 maybe 2 cans of paint..
Block heater..good idea to replace..pulling the old one out and reinstalling it may cause it to leak down the road...
They quoted you a price and should have stuck to it..if there were extra things that your vehicle needed during the repair process, they must call you with a new quote and get your approval.

Now on braking in an engine, I always follow manufactures procedures for componants like camshafts..usually let the engine run above idle for 1/2 hour....then I drive the shit out of it!
I'll put that thing to the upper limits right off the bat..if there is something wrong it will show up then.
Bring it back and change the oil, give it to the customer and see them back in 3K for their next oil change.

Re: Blazer Rebuild ..... Disapointed/Questions

If you paid with a credit card you also have the option to dispute the payment by sending the quote to the credit card company with an explanation of what happened. The CC company can correct the payment to the shop and credit your account if they have proof of overcharges.

Re: Blazer Rebuild ..... Disapointed/Questions

I've got a magnet rated for one hundred pounds... I assume that should work?
I'll be driving all day weekend, and we'll see how much metal i can collect.

I really would like to take my truck to BC for the next coming weekend(300km distance). I will probably get about 300-400km on the engine by then. Would this be too early to take the truck on the highway?

Re: Blazer Rebuild ..... Disapointed/Questions

It's almost always recomended by cam companys to run the engine for 15 to 30 minutes at around 2000 RPM. Does this process replace this step or did he just leave it out? Or do motorcycles not need this step?

Re: Blazer Rebuild ..... Disapointed/Questions

So I did some runs with it on the weekend.
Did about 120km on the engine and flushed the oil out. The oil was still farely clean, so I'll do another change at about 500km.
Would it be a bad call to take it on the highway after 500km????

Re: Blazer Rebuild ..... Disapointed/Questions

You don't have to flush it again, just use dino and run to 2000 miles this time.
