2002 Jetta Battery Draw "At Times"
I have a 2002 Jetta 1.8T that "At Times" draws the battery down overnight. I have checked the electrical system and the Alt. has a .21 volt draw and replaced the battery just as a precaution. The car will be fine for several days and then one night the battery goes dead after driving. You can charge it up and it will be fine again. The car has sat for 5-6 days and the battery is ok. I suspect something at times is staying on after we park the car but trying to find the problem is like chasing a ghost. Does anyone know what area to start looking at? I have checked all the draws at the battery cluster and the only one that pulls current is the alt and that is not enough to cause a problem. I have changed the alt also.
P.S. don't think it is related but the temp gauge will not work at times. |

Temp guage is faulty ect... you should replace that and might be causing battery draw if its short to pos...
Other than that check for draw: disconnect hood latch, open driver door and close latch w/ screwdriver. Set alarm and check for draw. If there is a draw (more than .1v) pull fuses on fuse pannel next to cluster untill the draw goes to 0v
