v8 swap for my 98 dakota
Hey guys! I'll be goin to automotive school here pretty soon and i'm thinking about using my dakota as a project vehicle and building a mild (maybe
)318 or 360 for it. I know i would have to swap out the drivetrain also which isn't a big deal. I'm trying to find a junk dakota with a v8, but my question is would i beable to use a fullsize ram truck for the engine and transmission without any big problems? I could find a used rearend fairly easily, so thats no big deal. Thanks for any info you guys can give me.

Re: v8 swap for my 98 dakota
The Dakota & Ram share the same drivetrain. Putting in a 318 or 360 will work, only thing, if it's an automatic, I'd recommend changing it out especially if the current engine is a V6. The 42RE transmission in there now will fit and work for a while hooked up to a V8, but as soon as you put the pedal to the metal, you'll toast that tranny. Get the 46RE automatic. As far as rear ends go, they're expensive as heck and I'm not sure where you are at, but where I live, it's hard to find a rear end for those trucks.

Re: v8 swap for my 98 dakota
Well, I know I can find a rearend for sure but it might take alittle bit of time though. Do you think I would be able to use the front and rearend in it know or would it be the same stiuation as the tranny? I forgot to mention that it's a 4x4 the first time. sorry. Thanks for your info!!
