at the strip

so yesterday was the first time i had ever been to a dragstrip (Island Dragway in NJ). I was there for teh biggest all rotary engine meet on the east coast (rotorfest). I did NOT have my car (heheh you guys will know why soon enough) but i did watch alot of other cars run.

anyway, i saw some interesting stuff:

WRX wagon slaughtered a mustang gt (believe 14.02 to 14.8).

a 1st gen eclipse consistently running low 13s all day until its hood latch came loose and smacked the windshield.

trans am ws6 vs new GTO (not sure of year) was something like 14.1 (ws6) to 14.3 (gto). i thought GTO's were faster than that. the gto trapped higher than the ws6 however.

primered FD rx7 ran 12 something (was mid to high 12s)

some 80s dodge sedan (definitely a turbo dodge) whomping on mustang gt's and a FAST crown vic (13.9)

a p-port 1st gen rx7 looked (and sounded holy shit, i dont know if you guys ever heard a p-port rotary but its loud as fuck) like it would go fast, sounded like it had transmission problems, i think its best run was a low 14.

another thing i noticed: i saw some bikes run, and is it just me or did they have relatively low et for the traps they run? they were trapping almost 150 mph and the ets were a mid 10.

Re: at the strip

lol ... I can't imagine the "biggest" meet of anything being at Island. That place is tiny.

Apparently the Rotaries did not have the place to themselves. How many would you say were there?

Re: at the strip

Reminds me of my last visit to the drag strip. I saw Utah's fastest street legal car. Was running 8.8's with it's only 3 runs that I saw. It was a 42' Ford I believe. No nitrous, no SC, no turbo. Just straight up, raw horsepower. Was pushing out 1100 HP. Loud as fuck, and just gorgeous to watch go down the strip. Wonder what it would have been running at sea level. We are up above it by over 4000 ft .

Sorry kiddo, didn't mean to try and hijack your thread. Just memories. You seemed to have enjoyed yourself there atleast. So, what's this reason you didn't have your car there now??

Re: at the strip

Yeah why didn't you drive?
And I'm kinda surprised by both the ws6 and the gto being in the 14s. We all know they are capable of better.
Sounds like you had a good time though.

Re: at the strip

well there were two gto's and one had a horible driver (nearly lost to an rx8, thats SAD).

also dissapointing was that most of the rotary cars werent running great times.

lol eps knows my secret that everyone forgot about... in response no, but... soon and i mean it.
