Budget Setup

I am in a process of making myself a relatively cheap system, I am not looking for a lot of bass, just a nice sounding system. Here is what I had in mind:
One of the cheaper alpine head units with adjustable face (I want the CDA-9830),
Infinity Speakers, I think Infinity Reference 6002si 6-1/2" 2-Way would be good for me,
and PowerAcoustik OV4-800 Gothic Series 4-Channel Amplifier.
This is for my '94 civic EX, it has OEM component speakers, should I keep them, take them out or maybe replace them?
So I just want to see if this a good setup, what parts can I get cheaper with better quality, and which brands should I stay away from.
*and also where can I get a cheap, alright quality wiring kit?

Thank you for your help.

Re: Budget Setup

www.crutchfield.com they are your one stop shop for anything aduio/video. Home or car setup. I bought a Visonik competition bandpass box with a plexiglass front, plexiglass top strip and a mirror in the bottom. It came all assembled with 2 Visonik 300W 12's. So 600W's of bass in a insanley nice looking package delivered to my door for under $200. Total price was $190 for the subs and I got free shipping for spending over $100. Peace-

Re: Budget Setup

Ok, I ended up with a Clarion DXZ655MP hu, and infinity Reference speakers. No Amp yet, will add that a lil later.
just a few questions on installation, are the OEM stereo wires for the radio color coded? ('94 Civic EX with AR stereo).
Are the +- specific colors for the speakers?
And for the rear the speakers are mounted on plastic brackets, do I bold the new speakers to it or directly to the body?
Sorry for all the noob questions, I am planning on installing everything myself. I am pretty good with electronics (wiring, soldering) just a nubcake in the stereo systems.

Re: Budget Setup

Also just wondering does the rubber flexible thingy around the speaker always falls of and breaks in 10 year old cars? Because in my car none of the speakers had that rubber ring anymore. That was my main reason for new speakers (originally just want a CD player).

Re: Budget Setup

here's the wiring diagram for your car.

Constant 12V+ Blue/White
Switched 12V+ Yellow/Red
Ground Black
Illumination Red/Black
Dimmer n/a
Antenna Driver's Pillar

Front Speakers 6 1/2" Doors
Left Front (+) Blue/Green
Left Front (-) Gray/Black
Right Front (+) Red/Green
Right Front (-) Brown/Black
Rear Speakers 5 1/4" Rear Deck
Left Rear (+) Blue/Yellow
Left Rear (-) Gray/White
Right Rear (+) Red/Yellow
Right Rear (-) Brown/White

you should just be able to get a wire harness that plugs into the factory wire harness coming from the vehicle. it may be a little different though since your car has factory components, never worked with one like yours before.

hope this helps you a little

are you doing anything with a sub?? (just out of curiosity)

yea, it's common for the rubber surrounds on the speakers to dry rot after a while

Re: Budget Setup

highteknology- I already found the answer in the honda audio forums, thanks though.
I am planning on adding a single 12" powered sub later on, and then an amp for the speakers, than my system will be done. I am not really looking for a lot of bass, just a nice sounding, balanced stereo.
