200 SX keyless entry programming

I got a second remote and the instructions. I'm following the instructions but it just wont go into the program mode. It's a 98 200SX and the instructions say to get in , lock the door with the door lock and then insert the key 6 times within 10 seconds, after which the emerg. flashers will flash indicating it is in the program mode. So I've tried inserting the key fast, slow, medium, fewer times, more times..... it just doesnt go into the program mode.

So, any hints or comments??

where are you putting the key in the door or igntion ?
in the door is wrong in the ignition is proper it sounds like u have the right instructions

I am putting it in the ignition as it says to. I have done it several times, several different ways. But once you insert the key for the last time, the instructions say that you turn the ignition to the on position and you should get the emerg flashers twice, indicating that you are in the programming mode- then push any button on the new remote. It never flashes the flasher lights, and if I push a button on the remote, the remote never programs.

first make sure the doors, trunk and hood are closed than get in car stick the key in turn on than off 6 times within ten second than the hazards will flash hit lock and unlock once than the remote is programed than open the door to complete also if your vehicle has the alarm switch on the center console it must be turned off ... check back later with progress or :-(

well, I've seen 2 sets of instructions that say to put the key in and out 6 times in ten seconds, and now I've also tried your suggestion of turning the ignition on and off 6 times in ten seconds, etc and it doesnt work either way.
