05, no seatbelt.

My 05 Rubicon front seat belts have quit working. You can't pull them out. The dealer tells me the inertia lock is broken, and to fix them I have to leave my Jeep with them for a week or so. Not sure what caused it. The driver side seatbelt has spent some time under water, but not the passenger. The driver side quit first, about a month later the passenger went out. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks.

Re: 05, no seatbelt.

Why even bother paying mechanic prices to repair it?

Go to quadratech and buy it, will take a week to get FedEx'd to you. You will pay an arm and a leg to get the same part from dealer. The dealers want you to leave it with them so they can order the part in and when it comes, at their convinience do the job. Its like a 2 bolt job if that.

Re: 05, no seatbelt.

We've got an 04 Wrangler, and although the seatbelts lock up too quickly (in our opinion) they have continued to work.

Re: 05, no seatbelt.

I imagine you've tried everything including jiggling them.

If the dealer says it's a factory problem, I'd go ahead and let them replace the units.

Dealer wants to hold off a couple weeks? I call

It's a safety issue. Find another dealer and report the first one to the BBB.

Being a safety issue, I would make the dealership pay for a rental car while they wait for parts. Due to a factory defect your vehicle is not safely driveable. The cost of the rental car might speed them up.

Re: 05, no seatbelt.

My 04 Rubi did the same thing on the passenger's side. Whenever it is cold (very cold) you cannot pull out the passenger's side seat belt.

I will take it into the dealer to have it replaced eventually.

Re: 05, no seatbelt.

I don't really have that much time to take it the dealership, and the time I do have I like to use for me. I have my belt rigged to work, but it is really bothersome. It's 2 bolts, they should just give me the belts and let me do it.
