Hey there
2 quick questions: 1. where is the fuel filter located on a 1999 Tercel and do I need any special tool to change it? 2. Spark plugs: Do I need a socket with a rubber insert that holds the plug, or a regular spark plug socket will do just fine? Thanks |

On my 92 the filter is located right beside the brake booster. Looks like a soup can with fittings on top and bottom. No special tools required.
The rubber insert makes it a whole lot easier to remove the plug once it is unscrewed. |

I'm assuming your 99 Tercel is that same as my 95 when it comes to these types of things. No special tools required, but you'll need an 8mm wrench for the little bolt that holds fuel filter bracket together, a 14mm wrench to remove the bottom fitting on the filter, and a 17mm wrench to remove the top fitting. A word of advice: remove both the bottom and top fittings before loosening the bracket bolt. By keeping the bracket bolt tight, it'll keep the filter from turning while you're trying to loosen the top and bottom. I just changed mine a few days ago and had no problems. I changed my spark plugs at the same time and the rubber insert definitely comes in handy.

Just an FYI use a piece of rubber hose over the end of the sparkplug to get it started in the plug hole. Once it's threaded in just pull the piece of hose off and tighten the plug the rest of the way.
