98 crysler t&c problem to start/computer problem

Sometimes it starts and works only for three sec and after it shuts down. After third attempt to start it doesn't start at all. During that time the dash board doesn't even blink-no speedometr, tachometer, fuel tank, or transmission; only the top part is still working-parking, chek engine, , oil, airbag etc. Light ant stereo are working also, so it seems like the main computer doesn't work for a while. But, the strange thing is, on the next day it starts and drive fithout any problem, and only after a week or maybe 6 months it might repeat again. I can't find any cause for it. In concluson, after all there are no codes in the memory.
Just one guess-security sistem?

Re: 98 crysler t&c problem to start/computer problem

My 03 GC had the computer crash on me. I heard from a mechanic that if the key and computer are not registering correctly after 3 times it will shut down. Not sure if its helpful, but may be related problem. There are some very helpful people on here and hopefully they will have more knowledge to give ya than me. DJBates

I'm not sure if this is your issue, you may have 2 seperate issues. Starting wise, the IAC valve will keep the vehicle from idling. Can you keep it running if you stay on the gas? Also the IAC will not generate any fault codes. Real easy to take off. clean the plunger area. I flushed mine with oil and it's been great since. 15 minute job. That part can also work today and not tomorrow kind of thing. just a thought.
Computer wise I would clean battery posts real good and then tighten down. Make sure it's got a good ground.

I have a similar problem with my 98 Dodge Grand Caravan.

What was the solution to your problem?
