Question 98 626 EGR Valve

My check engine light is on and my 626 is running a tiny bit rough. I stopped at Autozone and did the magic code reader thing. They say it is the EGR valve and/or two sensors that feed it. The guy recommended I remove it, test it, clean it up, and re install it before trying to buy a new one (at $399.00 I agree). I looked in my Haynes book and there is all the testing information I need, but it does not show the valve or it's location on my car.

Can anyone tell me where to find this thing?

It's the 6 cylinder, and I didn't get the exact code number. In his book when he looked it up it referenced the EGR valve, a solenoid and a sensor. Mileage is 120K (1998 626).

Unhappy

I have exactly the same problem. Check engine was coming on and off every couple days and finally when it stayed on for a longer time I checked the code in Autozone. It read "EGR flow" code P0400. It's 98 626 V6 with 126k miles. Mac626, did you find out what was wrong?
Does anybody know what can cause that?

The guy told me the valve needs to be replaced ($400.00 for the part only ). He also said that sometimes removing it and cleaning it will solve the problem. My Haynes book doesn't show where it is located and I haven't had the opportunity to mount a search for it yet.

I have a 1998 with a 4 cyl, does anyone know where the EGR is on this motor? Is it under the air filter assembly?

Similiar

Same thing but on a 1999

The dealer said that the egr was bad at first but then they changed their mind. Now they say that the bus cable that goes to the check engine light has a short in it. What ever. Im going back to auto zone and try some stuff my self.

on my 94 (4 cyl 626 autotrans), it is located under the throttle body which means you have to remove the air pipe from the filter/map and so on to get to it. it looked like taking it off mine would be a pain in the -ss since its toward the back of engine. fortunately, mine could be tested in place. of course i haven't gotten to the root of my problem yet.
