My friends Camry is having problems.

My dumb friend did a burnout in my friends Camry and now my friend can't reverse in his car. We had to push it backwards quite a few times today when he parked. His Reverse acts like Park and his neutral acts like Drive. This is the second time this has happened, but the first time, it was quickly fixed by shutting off the car and such. Anyone ever encountered this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it besides taking it to a shop or buying a new car? His car is a 1991 Camry V6 DX. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
