Re: New car for me pretty soon

This car will not be a daily driver. It will see some auto-x events though. That's why I'd rather stay away from a large car like the M5. I don't like Camaros or Corvettes, because I like a car that looks decent on the inside too. The RX-8 with a swap would sound good, except I don't want to spend $20k on the shell itself, so that's out of the picture. Here is the list as it stands right now:

1. Honda S2000
2. RX8
3. Evo
4. Sti
5. 98, 99 Boxter (probably not enough power and too expensive to repair)

Re: New car for me pretty soon

Not a big fan of the M3 huh?

Well for 20K you could get a kickass Porsche Carrera (like the old school 993 ones, i think), but yes, most parts will be a bitch.

I still say swapped RX-8, as the 3 rotor would put out more driveable torque, and it would probably be the only one of its kind in your county. Downside is, it won't legally pass smog (at least in Cali, not sure about Michigan), since the motor was never in production in the US. Also, the swap would probly run you some $$.

S2000's are nice, reminds me of a 4 wheeled version of a motorcycle, with the high revs, low torque, and gearing to remain in the powerband (i.e. 4000 rpms in 6th at freeway speeds). It's one of the few cars where you won't be making power at 4000 rpms. I bet it would make a great autocrosser though, and maybe you could get a hardtop for it.

Evos and STi's are awesome cars to me, but if you don't want 4 doors oh well. Funny that they are the fastest in your list though.

Honestly, I was never a fan of the boxter, I say drop that off your list.

Just hold on to your money and buy a Lotus Elise...can't ask for much more.

Re: New car for me pretty soon

I would go with a used C5 but if that's not your cup of tea, then i would go with a 350z...the exhaust note on those things are perfect...

rx-8 is only out if you count the suicide door, however it apears to be a 2 door.

Re: New car for me pretty soon

When I drove the Rx-8, I liked it... was comfy, has decent pick up and go.

And the rear seating wasn't bad, the rear seats are fairly easy to access. And provide decent leg room for a 2+2 sports coupe.

It's no rocketship, but the suspension was nice and tight for a road going car. Rx-7s are more of a track car due to the stiffer suspension, Rx-8s seem to fare better on the open road with the normal irregularities you get in the road.

Such as dips, uneven pavement, pot holes... and I like the way the 6 speed feels.. very crisp and quick. Clutch is very light and easy to work.

I wish I got to drive it more than I did. I enjoyed it.

Re: New car for me pretty soon

I'm really thinking about holding off on the car for probably another year. I don't want to get into too much debt right away.

really I thought the rx8 was a dog handled worse then my hatch by a great deal it felt like my jeep I was horridly let down.

comfy and looks sharp i'll give it that.

used c5 it'll pretty much walk everything else not easiest thing to drive but you'll learn alot from it and totally cool car no matter what.
