Opinions Please!
Hi there - new to the boards.
We are looking to purchase an 05 Liberty (new) later this year. I'm debating the V6 vs the Diesle engine. Anyone have experience with both? Suggestions? Good? bad? Ugly?? I'm not all that car savvy when it comes to engine stuff. LoL So any info ya'all can give me, I'd appreciate! Thanx! Emms |

Just bought an 05 Liberty Limited 3.7 4speed auto with AWD and 4wd,leather seats with buttwarmer, moonroof and the goodie trim its a peppy machine and rides somewhat better than you would imagine.I test drove the diesel with the 5 speed auto, limited Edition and I was impressed its very powerful for a diesel and smooth shifting, better than mine, price was an issue and so was the "0" % financing only on the gas model had it not been for those issues I would have bought the diesel. After the fact i found out that the 5 speed auto is made by Mercedes and they have little or no problems as opposed to Chyslers 4 speed where the possiblity of defects and problems linger. The gas mileage is better too.Good luck on your search,do some good haggling cause deals can be made on that car. If you are not interested in all the goodies like moonroof and leather seats etc the base sport model has quite a lot of standards and a lot less money,I dont know if the diesel is avialable in that model thou. Heres a link with info on the diesel...http://www.allpar.com/model/jeep/liberty-review.html

The article was very good - I've read that "short distances" make the diesle a worthless choice - but what technically qualifies as a "short distance"? One mile? Ten miles? Basically the vehicle will be used for work on a daily basis (about 10 miles each direction) and also things like camping (within 50 miles each direction) and once or twice a year a trip home to visit family (800 miles each direction). So I'm a little confused still as to which will better suit my lifestyle. Also, what's the difference between the 4 cylinder and the 6 cylinder, other than towing? Thanks in advance!! Emms |

Just got my Jeep Limited 4X4 CRD (diesel) in early May. I love it. Had one failure that required a software update.
Fuel economy on the highway is better than 27 mpg and in 50-50 city-highway driving, 21 - 22 mpg. Decent performance. Goes up steep, long grades on the highway or mountains like they are not even there. Can leave rubber all over the place at will in 2WD. Has 295 lb-ft of torque from a 2.8 L four turbodiesel. Very good 50 - 70 acceleration in 5th(top) gear. Five speed automatic is out of the Dodge 1500 pick-ups. Smooth yet quick shifts. If you do alot of highway driving, get the diesel. If you buy one, be prepared to wait unless the dealer has some on the lot (not likely). |
