Re: I need help with my 89 camary
Good chance you have either air in your coolant system (fill it at the radiator until the engine gets hot then put on the cap) or a cruddy radiator core (flush). Another possibility is a bad head gasket. Check to see if there is any coolant in the oil, or bubbles in the coolant reservoir or white smoke from the exhaust.
You didn't say that you replaced the thermostat, only that you removed it. Put a new one in if you haven't already done so.

How hot is the engine? Under what situation? Always? Check the coolant temperature sensor. It may send out faulty signal. Another thought, take out your plugs, the normal color on the tip should be light brown or dark. If it's white, the engine is running lean. That will cause hot engine also. |

I would be curious to look at the top of the radiator core (the holes visible thru the filler neck). If there is a bunch of what stuff encrusted around the openings you probably have a plugged radiator. I have had very limited success with flushes. It usually just opens up some leaks in an already marginal radiator. Don't let this situation go, cooling system health is critical to older engines. I've seen more of them ruined due to lack of cooling system maintenance than anything else.
