Question bleeding problems

Here's what's up: new slave cyl., new hydr. line(less than year old)
Just replaced slave and the system doesn't seem to fully bleed. Clutch almost does enough, but not quite. All of sudden I can sometimes shift, but then I lose it again, then it comes back, and so on....
A mech. friend told me to prop the pedal down and mark the slave pushrod. Leave it overnight and then check to see if slave pushrod pushed back in. This would mean the master was bad. Tried it and it didn't move even a c___ hair. I've bled 3 pints thru the thing already. What else could be wrong? VERY CONFUSED

I have the exact same problem. Sometimes I will catch the clutch on a good day and sometimes I gotta sit for a minute before it will shift into first (for me anyways). No the problem is not the master cyl, I checked my slave rod distance and it travels the same distance as my other fiero (which works fine). I really don't think its the slave either.

A mech told me it was the clutch disk or the pressure-plate itself. So he is changing them for me on Monday. I will find out for sure on tuesday whether thats the problem.

Since your whole line is relatively new, I doubt of any leaks in it.
Of course the best way to learn of any leaks in the line is that you use up fluid more frequently, also letting air in.

ok, well the pressure plate/clutch/bearings were not my problem so I think yours are fine too.

The only thing I haven't replaced on my car is the transmission. Even though I am not sure that is the problem either.

Re: bleeding problems

Jack up the front driver's side as high as you can, or park facing up a steep hill. Open the slave bleed screw. Gravity will pull out the fluid. Make sre you maintain the fluid level in the master. I think you'll find air in your slave. Close the slave when the bubbles stop. I had the same problem and the new slave was less than $70.00 at Advance Auto.

Re: bleeding problems

i.ve had trouble bleading mine in the past, and i tried the old ways. take a botlle you can see thru and a peace of clear hose that fits tightly over the bleader nipple. attach hose to nipple, put other end of hose into bottle with small amount of brake fluid in it, open cover on resovor, now open bleader and allow system to gravity bleed. make sure hose is in fluid it bottle and watch for bubbles. keep a pint of brake fluid nearby res. and keep it full. allso keep an eye on bottle. make sure bottle doesnt overflow, or res. doesnt empty. bottle should be on the grond or at the very last below slave nipple and res. so on the ground is the best place. allow at least one pint to go threw this way. if that much goes threw you should have flush the entire system and it should be bleed clear of air, unless there is a hole in the line.
