1987 Ford Ranger Just Quits While Driving
While driving down the road the truck just dies. If you pull over and wait a few minutes, it will start up again. We have had the Ford Dealer replace the ignition module, the fuel pump and the fuel pump on the A-frame. However, this has not corrected the problem. Any ideas?? Thank you for your help.

Re: 1987 Ford Ranger Just Quits While Driving
Just went through this problem with my '88. Have your mechanic look at the "shock" sensor that deprives the engine of fuel, thus killing the engine in case of an accident. On mine, the switch old and tired (and possibly had something wrong with it)and the heat from the engine would cause it to "switch into off".

Re: 1987 Ford Ranger Just Quits While Driving
I had a simlilar situation with stalling on a ford and after many replacement parts it ended up being a hall sensor that sit inside the distributor.
We'd drive it like 20 minutes and it would stall, sit awhile it would start back up for however long and stall again. It was not to bad a job pulling distributor as long as you mark everything to put it back in identically as before. Hope this helps or gives you insight. |
