Did the McLaren F1 GTR win the 24 hrs of the LeMans against the prototypes?
Hey, i know this question's kinda retarded but it been bothering me. Did the McLaren F1 GTR in 1995 win the infamous 24 Hour race at France? The real 24 hr race, like the same race that meredes won with the sauber c9, and where the porsche 962 dominated?? Because its kinda hard to beleeve first time out it beat out the prototypes

Re: Did the McLaren F1 GTR win the 24 hrs of the LeMans against the prototypes?
Yes, the F1 GTR won overall beating everybody including the prototype classes. However for 1995, the prototype class consisted of LMP1 which was WSC cars and LMP2. They were pretty lame in comparison to cars Group C and C90 cars like the 962 and 787B which raced at Le Mans up until 1995. Still, a GT car to winning outright against the faster prototype cars is a feat in itself
Here is a list of the 1995 entries accompanied by some pictures... http://www.racingsportscars.com/phot...-18-photo.html |

omg, thats f***ing amazing, to beat out the prototypes in a production based race car. God damn, it must've been really quick and reliable to get an overall win against them. I mean even the shitty prototypes are fast. I dunno y todays LeMans winning racers have low horsepower and are considerably slower than the 80's and early 90's prototypes. Even with the chicanes, the average group C race car had about 700 bhp and a top speed of well over 220 mph.
